Long opening hours, ticket availability, and easy transport make Schloss Linderhof, smallest of Bavarian King Ludwig's fantasy castles, a popular day trip from Munich.
Opening hours for Schloss Linderhof Castle are long and convenient. In contrast to many other sights, Schloss Linderhof is open on Mondays and most holidays. The lovely park surrounding the Linderhof Castle is mostly unfenced allowing free admission year round.
Opening Hours for Schloss Linderhof CastleLinderhof Castle is open daily from April to September from 9 am to 6 pm and October to March from 10 am to 4 pm. The structures in the garden are only open in summer. Linderhof Palace is closed on December 24, 25, and 31, January 1, and Faschingsdienstag (Mardi Gras).
Tickets for Schloss Linderhof CastleTickets for Schloss Linderhof can be bought in person from the ticket center at the entrance to Linderhof Park near the parking lot. From here, it is a few minutes stroll to the palace inside the park. Tickets for Schloss Linderhof are much less in demand than for the much more popular Schloss Neuschwanstein. Reservations are generally not necessary but can be done via fax or normal snail mail – this service is mainly aimed at groups. Guided tours – available in German or English – are compulsory to see the inside of the castle and take just less than half an hour. Information sheets in other languages may be available – ask when entering the palace prior to the commencement of the tour itself.
Transportation to Schloss Linderhof
Linderhof Castle is on a small country road 10 km (6 miles) from the monastery town Ettal (near Bavaria’s most popular ski resort Garmisch-Partenkirchen). Ample parking is available. This lovely road continues into Austria and is a useful short cut to Füssen.
Bus 9622 runs from Oberammergau station via Ettal to Schloss Linderhof a few times per day. Services are limited, especially on weekends, so double check timetables before setting out. From Garmisch-Partenkirchen use bus 9606 (to Füssen via Oberau, Oberammergau, Wieskirche, and Schwangau) and change to bus 9622 in Ettal.
